Another question that is quite common is: “can I drive in Spain with my driving license?”
Well, again, it depends where you are from.
If you come from a country in the EU and the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), your driving license will be valid. It can be changed to the Spanish one, but the change is not mandatory.
If, on the other hand, you are from a country outside the European Union, your driving license will be valid only during the first 6 months of your residence in Spain. Then the exchange will have to be made.
The DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) will only make the exchange for people who have a driving license issued in a state that is on the list of countries with an agreement.
Those who are not on this list will have to re-obtain their driving license.
